A "six-man sound machine", The Magnets wow audiences with their blend of razor-sharp harmonies, slick vocal stunts and infectious groove.
The Magnets say:
"We pride ourselves on having an all-encompassing live sound that compares favourably with any band with instruments. But on occasion some members of our audience have actually refused to believe that we aren’t singing to a backing track! So we created a start to our show that leaves people in no doubt that we’re singing a cappella:"
"After a barbershop vignette designed to set the audience’s minds on a more traditional tangent, we then introduce members of the band one by one, starting with the bass, followed by alternating lead vocals and building up a nice big rock beat that climaxes with us all gathered together, like a band, around Andy our drummer."

... building up to a big rock beat (02:32)
"Then, having given the audience an idea of who is making which sounds, we’re now on safe ground to go into one of our trademark group routines, during which it is always harder to work out who is singing what:"
Can you still hear each part? (02:56)
"It’s a nice, accessible way to present what is a pretty left field song choice, which is what we are about; taking our audience to places that they won’t expect to go with an a cappella group.”
Is it a cappella or straight-up rock? (03:13)
